Outdoor Tourism for all ages at the Gran Canaria Adventure Weekend

The Outdoor Tourism Business Association of the Canary Islands, Activa Canarias, is promoting the Gran Canaria Adventure Weekend, the new Active Tourism event that aims to promote the tourist and natural attractions of the island of Gran Canaria. For one weekend, from 21 to 24 September, tourists will be offered twenty experiences of all kinds and for all tastes. The exhibition is sponsored by Turismo de Gran Canaria, Turismo LPA de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the IASS Gran Canaria, with the collaboration of AC Marriot Hotels.

Activities such as hiking, wine tourism, starlight or site interpretation are mixed with other more daring activities such as canyoning, surfskiing, tandem skydiving or via ferrata, in a juicy programme available on the event's website, grancanariaadventure.com. In addition, there is also the possibility of attending the LPA City Race, which consists of two orienteering races to discover Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, each with a different level of difficulty.

The president of Activa Canarias, José Luis Echevarría, points out that "we wanted to show just a part of the incredible potential of Gran Canaria as an Outdoor Tourism destination. In addition, it has different levels of difficulty, so that it can be enjoyed by young people, senior citizens or families, in activities by air, sea and land".

He stresses that "Outdoor Tourism, and specifically this event, brings together a series of associated good practices that are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda, as it favours economic diversification, promotes healthy lifestyle habits, is an environmentally sustainable activity, and contributes to economic development, placing value on local products and the kilometre 0 economy".

Carlos Álamo, Counselor for Tourism of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, said that "Outdoor Tourism is a very important segment of an industry in which customer interest in experiences in natural environments as beautiful and with so much potential for leisure and sport as ours is, is growing every day". He added that Outdoor Tourism "allows the client to enjoy unparalleled landscapes in a respectful manner, a variety of products ranging from our trails to our night sky, and with all this we improve the overall offer, the quality of the product, the attractiveness of our destination and we ensure that the wealth generated by tourism is distributed throughout the island".

The Councillor for Tourism, Pedro Quevedo, pointed out that the celebration of the Gran Canaria Adventure Weekend in the island's capital is an endorsement of the "outstanding range of Outdoor Tourism services and infrastructures that Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has, being a great city thanks to its natural conditions. The generation of outdoor activities is one of the great resources and attractions of the capital. From hiking to activities in the sea, such as surfing and body boarding, kayaking, diving and snorkelling or recreational sailing, among others, or paragliding, urban walks on foot, by bike, segway, etc.". The event, said Quevedo, is "an opportunity to promote these sustainable activities, in a city and a safe island with unbeatable air quality, sea and climate".

All activities are displayed on the website grancanariadventure.com, available in English, Spanish, French and German. Bookings can be made on the Activa Canarias Marketplace, ecoactivacanarias.com, and special discounts are available as they are included in the programme for this week of activities. A juicy alternative for tourists visiting the islands during these days.

Workshop in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

Gran Canaria Adventure Weekend opens with Las Palmas de Gran Canaria as a featured municipality. Thanks to the support of Turismo LPA of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the event will have specific experiences in the capital, covering tourist spectrums that go beyond nature tourism, such as culture and gastronomy. In this context, a workshop will be held on 18 September between tourism agents, companies and institutions. It will be held at the city's Hotel AC Marriot Iberia.
